Distinction: Journal of Form
  • Genesis
Distinction: Journal of Form has its genesis in the Laws of Form series of
conferences previously held at the University of Liverpool, and which, in 2026, will
be hosted by the University of Cambridge. The first of these conferences was held
to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Laws of Form, George Spencer-Brown’s pioneering work in the foundations of mathematics.
  • Scope
Distinction: Journal of Form is the organ of the Spencer-Brown Society and is the
international home for scholarship and research into Spencer-Brown’s mathematical
and other works. The contents of the journal comprise peer-reviewed papers on
diverse and interdisciplinary topics related to Spencer-Brown’s life and works
including: mathematics, cybernetics, computer science, systems theory, theoretical
physics, sociology, philosophy, phenomenology, Mahayana logic and epistemology,
consciousness and the limits of language, and various areas in the arts.
  • Opportunity
Since Distinction: Journal of Form is an interdisciplinary journal, additional topics allied to those listed above are also considered for publication.
